I try to write about three times per week. Most of it is pretty good and will probably help you grow your business. If it doesn't, then I probably can't help you.

You can use a traditional RSS Feedreader with this fancy-dancy link. I think this approach is harder but if you want to do it the hard way, who am I to say otherwise?

When I was 11 years old, I started throwing papers for a living. For an 11-year-old, $150 per month was quite a living. I found that if I was willing to work hard, I could make more money and therefore have more money to spend on the frivolity of youth.

And, yes, I was frivolous.

Shortly after I turned 12, I was invited to sell papers door-to-door in the evening. These were for neighborhoods in which the newspaper didn't have a strong presence such as new sub-divisions.

I would get a bonus for each subscription I could sign up… I think it was like $2 per sale. In addition, I could earn bonuses for hitting certain milestones.

It’s always a good idea to shop around a bit when you are considering hiring someone to perform a service for you. The challenge, very often, is knowing the right way to make the decision.

Usually, we try to guard ourselves against paying too much. We worry so much about paying more than we should that all too often we’ll choose a lower cost provider. In the absence of understanding the value that someone provides, you have to make your decisions based on the only information available. That usually defaults to price.

When was the last time you guarded yourself against paying too little? Did you even consider that might be a problem?

I have focused my career on finding improvements in processes. No matter what job I’ve held, I’ve always gravitated towards identifying problems and then figuring out a way to make them go away.

I first realized that I had this talent better than 15 years ago as I helped a client of mine streamline their shipping procedures saving them $1,000s each month.

Whether running a design shop, selling office equipment, working as a consultant, managing a sales team or running my company, I’ve found that I always gravitate towards fixing problems.

When I was a junior in high school, I was called to the office quite unceremoniously. It was a little strange for me because, until that point, I had not ever been called to the office for anything bad. (Until that point.)

When I got to the office I told them that I was Corey Smith. They looked at me and said, “You’re not Corey Smith.”

I asked them if they had a mirror for me to check.

Come to find out there was another Corey Smith in my high school that was about ready to be suspended and so they were going to give me a “what-for” when I got to the office. I think they were disappointed they couldn’t.

Two years ago this week, I started this new blog. I came up with a design that I was very happy with but then a few months later I realized that it needed a little upgrade because it quickly became my personal branding website and not only my blog.

Over the course of those two years, I have made a few tweaks here and there and have been pretty happy with the result. I've enjoyed the design but I finally figured it was time for an overhaul.

Not only is my website an opportunity for me to write new content but it's also a bit of a test bed for doing new things with our company's web design capabilities.
